A European club has now revealed why they decided against signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United when offered the chance.

Stade Brest sporting director Gregory Lorenzi has confessed that there were two reasons behind the French club's decision to pass on the opportunity to sign the forward. "I was offered Greenwood, who Manchester United sacked for a non-sporting matter," he said, as per "But between the controversy and the salary, we didn't consider following it up for a second."

Other clubs around Europe are also said to have rejected the former England international, with reports suggesting Borussia Dortmund, Roma, AC Milan and Brentford all turned down the opportunity to sign him in the last few days of the recent transfer window. Greenwood's search for a new club began when he was put on the market by United after being arrested and charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in January 2022.

Just over a year later, those charges were dropped, but after the Mancunians conducted their own internal investigation into the incident, they ultimately decided to part ways with the player and help him find a new club instead.
