The road is believed to have flooded due to extremely heavy rain in the area.

Two people have died after they drove a car into a flooded section of a road in Liverpool, police said.

The man and woman were inside a black Mercedes Class 180 when it entered the water on Queens Drive between North Mossley Hill Road and Dovedale Road at around 9.20pm yesterday. They were later recovered from the car by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services and officers from Merseyside Police, but were pronounced dead when they arrived in hospital.Police said they would be investigating the incident further at the coroner’s request.

The road is believed to have flooded due to extremely heavy rain in the area, with Met Office data showing more than 32mm of rainfall an hour in the local area on Saturday. Detective Chief Inspector Mike Dalton said: ‘Our thoughts go out to the family of the man and woman who sadly lost their lives in this tragic incident, despite the best efforts of passing members of the public, our officers and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services at the scene.
