In total, 10 LAPD officers and four civilian staff members have outright refused to get vaccinated so far.

Two more Los Angeles Police Department officers have been fired for not complying with the city’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate.

In Tuesday’s Police Commission meeting, Assistant Chief Dominic Choi said a total of three officers have been fired so far for refusing to get vaccinated. That was after announcing the first firing of an officer over the mandate on Feb. 8., according to numbers Choi provided. The seven remaining officers will soon get hearings before the department’s Board of Rights that will determine whether they get to keep their jobs.

The number of disciplined or fired officers and staff could still go up: Thousands of LAPD employees still have yet to see their vaccine exemptions for religious or medical reasons reviewed. For any of those employees who have their exemptions denied, they’d either have to get vaccinated or submit to weekly testing. Otherwise they’ll be fired.

But the number of firings remains low, despite months of fretting from public officials around the region and threats from anti-vaccine activists over whether they’d see a mass exodus of sworn officers from their ranks.
