The Padres' Cal Mitchell homers twice in Triple-A El Paso's loss to Sacramento
The Padres on Wednesday called up a big-leaguer to help cover Xander Bogaerts’ injury. Cal Mitchell is doing what he can to remain top of mind. The Rancho Bernardo High product homered twice in Triple-A El Paso’s 10-6 loss to visiting Sacramento, continuing a solid start to his first season in the Padres organization. The 25-year-old Mitchell signed a minor league deal over the offseason. He has three homers in 35 games, 15 RBIs and a .283/.379/.469 batting line.
Missions 4, Wichita 3 : LF Cole Cummings went 2-for-5 with an RBI single in extra innings for the win. 3B Marcos Castañon went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored. 1B Robbie Tenerowicz went 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. RHP Ryan Bergert allowed three runs in 4⅔ innings in the start.
TinCaps 12, Lansing 5: LF Tyler Robertson drove in five runs on two hits, including his third homer and eighth double to key the TinCaps’ seventh straight win. 3B Devin Ortiz and 2B Nerwilian Cedeño each had three hits, C Anthony Vilar had two and DH Ethan Salas went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, two walks and two runs scored. LHP Jagger Haynes picked up his first professional win with five strikeouts over seven innings of one-run ball, scattering four hits and three walks.
