Scores Die, Hundreds Injured in Two Car Bombs in MogadishuAt least 100 people were killed and close to 300 others were injured in two car bombings in Mogadishu on Saturday October 29, 2022. Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited the site of the attack in the early hours of Sunday. He appealed to the international community to send doctors and medical supplies to treat the wounded. Voice of America reports that the car bombings targeted the Education Ministry, located at one of the busiest intersections in the capital. Zobe junction is the site of the October 14, 2017, truck bombing, the deadliest single day terror attack in Africa, which killed and injured 1,000 people. In that attack al-Shabaab did not claim responsibility, although an al-Shabaab operative was convicted and later executed for coordinating the attack. This time al-Shabaab immediately claimed responsibility for the bombings.
