UK NEWS: Two dead as armed police swoop streets amid reports of gunshots fired in south London

Two people have died following reports of gunshots being fired in London on Sunday night . Armed officers were called to Railton Road, in Brixton, just before 8pm.

A major investigation has since been launched with a number of roads closed in the area as enquiries are carried out. No arrests have been made in relation to the incident, with formal identification of the deceased still to take place. The Metropolitan Police said in a statement on Sunday night: "Police were called at about 19:50hrs on Sunday, 30 October to reports of gunshots heard on Railton Road, SE24. Officers, including firearms officers, are in attendance along with the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance.

"Their next of kin are yet to be informed and we await formal identification. Post-mortem examinations will be held in due course.
