Two-alarm fire damages small gym at East Bay high school

The fire broke out about 7:55 p.m. Sunday.

The blaze did not injure anyone. The gym is home to practices and occasional events. It was not clear immediately how badly the gym was damaged, but pictures posted on social media by the Pleasanton Unified School District showed the blaze tore through at least part of a wall.

The fire did not spread anywhere else, but it did knock out power to at least some of the school, according to the district. PG&E was working to restore the power.Livermore-Pleasanton Fire crews were called to the school at 7:57 p.m., saw smoke coming from the gymnasium, and immediately requested a second alarm, according to a statement from the department.

Thirteen crews from Livermore-Pleasanton Fire and the Alameda County Fire needed about 30 minutes to put out the blaze.
