A new policy now means users are prohibited from promoting social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram

It announced the new policy in a tweet today , saying: ”We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter.”

It added it will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames for ”Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post”. According to Twitter, examples of violating the policy include a person writing “follow me”, followed by their Instagram user name.

Posts which break the rules will be removed if they are ”an isolated incident or first offense” – but any further offences will mean the may result in accounts being suspended permanently. But posts from certain social media platforms which allow users to post content to Twitter are still permitted.
