The winner put it right on. - Wendy ElliottWOLFVILLE, N.S. — The new documentary Ukraine: One Life at a Time takes a deep look at lives disrupted and broken by Russian aggression.
It tells the stories of families from Kyiv, Mariupol and Bucha who have fled the war-torn country and found safety in Canada. Tatyana Yaneva was impacted first by Russian aggression in 2014 in the eastern part of Ukraine. Her family, she said, had their house, car and peace taken away from them.“I think we can construct a new life here,” she said.
After the screening, area residents and their Ukrainian neighbours shared treats and conversation. Pastry chef Alina Havrylenko, who has opened a new business called CanUK Cake, made pastries and delicacies. Tetiana Piskum contributed a piece of her felted art that was auctioned off at the end of the evening.
