JOHANNESBURG - The Tshwane Municipality says is investigating a conflict of interest case between Deputy Mayor Eugene Modise and a company he previously owned that has been awarded multimillion-rand tenders by the city.

The Democratic Alliance in Tshwane has alleged Triotic Protection Services, a company founded by Modise, benefitted from a R300 million security tender awarded by the municipality during the 2016 / 2017 financial year.Responding to the allegations, the multiparty coalition government in Tshwane has confirmed Modise was the owner of Triotic Protection Services.

It said the tender awarded to his company was during the 2016 / 2017 financial year - under a previous administration.Tshwane refutes DA’s claims that incoming Deputy Mayor Eugene Modise owes city over R500K It adds Modise resigned from the company before he became a councillor in Tshwane for the African National Congress in February 2023.

"While the executive mayor has accepted the deputy executive mayor's submissions, the city will commission an independent investigation to address these allegations thoroughly. The executive mayor is in full support of such an investigation, the multiparty administration remains committed to good governance, accountability and the rule of law" said Multiparty spokesperson, Zintle Mahlati.
