The City of Tshwane Emergency Services has activated its Disaster Operations Center to manage incidents caused by severe thunderstorms and heavy rain. An orange level 6 warning for disruptive rain has been issued for most parts of Gauteng. A tornado hit Montana, north of Pretoria, damaging residential complexes and vehicles. Emergency services urge residents to stay indoors, avoid outdoor activities, and exercise caution during the severe weather.
The City of Tshwane Emergency Services has activated the City Disaster Operations Centre to monitor the inclement weather conditions and manage incidents resulting from severe thunderstorms.
This after orange level 5 warning was upgraded to an orange level 6 warning for disruptive rain over most parts of Gauteng. Several residential complexes and vehicles have been damaged after a tornado hit Montana, north of Pretoria last night. EMS spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni has urged community members to remain alert and vigilant during the disruptive weather.
“We call on communities to observe the following safety measures, if possible, stay indoors and away from metal objects, avoid outdoor activities such as fishing or playing golf in the rain, do not seek shelter under isolated trees or tall objects if there is a thunderstorm.
