'Actually, I don't know him, never spoke to him, or met him (I don't believe!),' the president wrote of Vindman on Twitter.

Vindman was escorted from the White House on Friday, days after Trump was acquitted in the Senate impeachment trial. In a statement, Vindman's lawyer David Pressman announced that Vindman was fired from his position as Director for European Affairs for the United States National Security Council. Vindman's brother, Lieutenant Colonel Yevgeny Vindman, was also fired from his role as a senior lawyer and ethics official.

The reasons Trump gave for firing Vindman included him being"very insubordinate, reported contents of my"perfect" calls incorrectly, &...was given a horrendous report by his superior, the man he reported to, who publicly stated that Vindman had problems with judgement, adhering to the chain of command and leaking information. The White House did not immediately respond to emailed request for comment.

Pressman implied in the statement that Vindman was fired for testifying, despite following orders and that Trump was"exacting revenge.""There is no question in the mind of any American why this man's job is over, why this country now has one less soldier serving it at the White House. LTC Vindman was asked to leave for telling the truth. His honor, his commitment to right, frightened the powerful.
