A bug-covered body. A history of mismanagement. Shanks made from walls. Former president Donald Trump and 18 others may have to report to the Fulton County Jail.
There have been ongoing problems with overcrowding in the jail, along with violence, overflowing toilets and faulty air conditioning. The sheriff called the environment a “humanitarian crisis” last month when the Justice Department opened an investigation after an inmate was found dead,.
At the Fulton County Commissioners' meeting on Sept. 21, 2022, Sheriff Patrick Labat brought shanks he said were made from parts of the jail’s crumbling walls. Labat said Tuesday that “it is expected that all 19 defendants named in the indictment will be booked at the Rice Street Jail.” Labat and other authorities will have to coordinate with the Secret Service, who provide protection for Trump, and they could arrange for the former president to be processed elsewhere.
