As the White House pushes"Bidenomics" into the spotlight, voters in Michigan overwhelmingly say the economy is the most important subject, but they also have President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump in a dead heat.
The Biden administration has made a big push recently to present the economy as a winning issue ahead of the president's 2024 reelection bid, but voters seem unconvinced as Biden's approval rating on the economy is underwater. The push by the White House also comes as Fitch Ratings downgraded U.S. debt from a AAA rating to a AA+ rating, citing a"steady deterioration in standards of governance over the last 20 years.
"Just over half of independent voters, 51%, disapprove of the job Biden is doing in office. This is a pivotal group in Michigan that Biden won over in 2020 yet is struggling with both nationally and statewide in recent surveys," Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said in a statement.
