Justin Trudeau once again highlighted his government’s plan to have a special rapporteur examine the serious issue.
Several media reports, citing Canadian intelligence documents, said China mounted a widespread campaign to try to influence both the 2019 and 2021 federal elections. According to the reports, Beijing focused on a handful of ridings with large Chinese Canadian populations.
“We’re going to be putting forward an independent expert tasked with surveying the entire landscape around interference and our national security bodies and institutions, making sure that everything was done right, that everything is done to keep Canadians and our elections safe,” he said.Article content
