Sometimes a wheel alignment is a waste of time and money. Via drivingdotca
This happened to me on my first day on the job at the service counter more than four decades ago, and it hasn’t stopped since: a customer walks in asking for a wheel alignment. All good service consultants will ask a few questions when this request comes up — if they’re experiencing unusual steering symptoms such as a constant pull to the left or right, if the tires are wearing unevenly, if the steering wanders and requires a lot of correction, etc.
But before any tech hooks up the alignment rack, they’ll check all the attaching points where the wheel meets the steering and suspension components, as well as a number of other items. If there’s any play or tolerance in parts like outer tie rod ends or ball joints, attempting to realign the wheels without first taking care of any looseness is a total and complete waste of time. Here’s why.
