BREAKING: Tropical Storm Arlene has formed. Tune to The Weather Channel for continuing coverage.
This system won't last long and is moving away from the U.S. Gulf Coast.Sign up for the Morning Brief email newsletterTropical Storm Arlene has formed in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, but it's not expected to last long and is no direct threat to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Most of the rain from this tropical storm is concentrated just north and east of its center over the Gulf of Mexico. However, some occasional bands of locally heavy rain could impact parts of the Florida Peninsula on Friday. We expect Arlene to continue moving to the south or southeast over the next day or so. Therefore, it's no direct threat to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
In addition, if you have beach plans in Florida, take note of any yellow or red flags warning of rip currents, and stay out of the water if those flags are flying. If this sounds like déjà vu, it's not your imagination.
