Trinity baseball starts D-III championship tournament with shutout loss to LaGrange

The Tigers will be traveling to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to play in the Division III College World Series on Friday.Trinity’s potent offense was silenced in the Tigers’ first game at the Division III championship tournament, as LaGrange exploded for a 12-0 win on Friday at Veterans Memorial Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

LaGrange broke through in the third inning with a two-run single by McKinley Erves. The Panthers tacked on three more in the sixth, when David Smigelski reached on one of Trinity’s four errors for an RBI and Jared Aldridge knocked a two-run double. LaGrange broke the game open during a four-run seventh inning. Jack Layrisson hit a two-run triple, Cael Chatham had an RBI double, and Rhett Hebert tacked on a sacrifice fly.

The Panthers continued to pour it on in the eighth, extending the margin with a bases-loaded walk by Chatham, a sacrifice fly from Smigelski and an RBI single by Aldridge.
