It's a shame one of them had to lose, but with their legendary duel, Berkley Zache and Audrey Lowry confirmed their status as two of Indiana's best.
Following a 10-minute, field-condition-mandated respite, Lowry found her groove, striking out the next four hitters she faced. She issued a walk with one out in the third — and retired the next 18 in-a-row, 15 via strikeout.
The seventh provided perhaps the most drama. Ava Sullivan snapped an 0-for-9 drought with a lead-off single, followed by bunt singles from Lainey Price and Kendall Williams. Suddenly, a Bruins team that had struggled to bunt all season, had bunted its way into a one-out, bases-loaded situation. "We had our chances two or three times," Miller lamented."We tried to swing, we tried to bunt, we tried to steal , I mean we were doing everything we could to try and get it across, but it just wasn't meant to be."
Though officially scored as an error, it was an incredibly difficult play given the field conditions and with the runner at second running on contact.
