The inside track on the football stories that matter
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Liverpool allowing Trent Alexander-Arnold to enter the final year of his contract is “very strange”.the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed there will have to be a solution to his future in the next few weeks. The England international right-back has been a revelation for Liverpool since breaking into the first team back in 2016.
“We’re going to have to see where that ends up but as I say there are a lot of question marks around the Liverpool squad at the moment and the spotlight is coming right on it.“Now I know that there will have been discussions behind the scenes between the new sporting director and the Fenway Sports Group and there are things that we won’t be party to.
“Still, things aren’t resolved otherwise it would have been announced – so every week we’re going to be watching what happens.”
