A 20-year-old man has been arrested for stabbing and killing a 16-year-old girl along a busy street in the Indian capital of Delhi on Sunday (May 28) evening.
Surveillance footage capturing the brutal murder shows the teen being stabbed 22 times with a knife and then bludgeoned to death by her alleged boyfriend.
“It was my daughter’s birthday, so she had gone shopping. She bought clothes and told me she was going to meet another friend of hers. But she never came back,” the victim’s friend Neetu told Times Now. At one point, a male passer-by attempts to pull the knife away from Sahil, but the accused wrestles his arm free and continues to stab the victim. The passer-by then runs away.
He then briefly walks away but returns to bludgeon her with the slab and kick her a few more times before leaving. In a tweet on Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal described the murder as"very sad and unfortunate", adding that"criminals have become fearless”. Some netizens opined that the victim could have survived if people had banded together to come to her aid.
