In 2003, he had begun to find more success and also started dating Lionel Richie's daughter, Nicole Richie. Afterwards, they joined assistant Chris Baker as well as security guard, Charles Still, and two pilots to fly out of South Carolina to Los Angeles on a Learjet 60. However, shortly after takeoff, the plane experienced an emergency and crashed.The tragic incident killed both Baker and Still, as well as the two pilots, but Travis and DJ AM managed to escape the crash.
'I woke up to Travis screaming and the plane engulfed in flames. I remember thinking it was like"Miami Vice," where a car is on fire and you run before the gas tank explodes — we gotta get out of here!' 'It sounded like someone was shooting a gun next to my head. Then the plane just spiraled out of control. The plane would basically go up in the air, then crash down and hit the ground, then come up.'
Following the accident, both Travis and DJ AM chose to not step onto a plane. However, in 2021, the drummer took a flight to Italy as he overcame his fear with Kourtney Kardashian. Adam also became a DJ at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas after leaving a position at Caesar's Palace. He briefly jumped into the film industry and made a cameo appearance as himself in Iron Man 2 as a DJ at Tony Stark's party - played by Robert Downey Jr.
Addiction: The star battled drug addiction for years since he was a teenager, and sought sobriety and help after attempting suicide at the age of 24; Travis and DJ AM with Too Short in January 2009in January 2008, DJ AM got candid about his addiction to drugs as well as struggles with weight and food.
He revealed that he worked at celebrity birthday parties for stars such as Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio.
