Buttigieg's visit coincides with the release of a preliminary report of the National Transportation Safety Board's investigation into the derailment
U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Thursday traveled to East Palestine and toured the site where aButtigieg met with federal investigators who, according to Buttigieg's office, were on the ground in East Palestine hours after the train derailed on Feb. 3 near the Pennsylvania border. Buttigieg also planned to meet with emergency responders and is expected to take questions from reporters later this morning.
“No insulation jacket, no insulation. It’s just a steel jacket,” Randy Keltz, manager of tank car safety programs at the Federal Railroad Administration, explained to the secretary.
