Exclusive: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. reveals the moment Anthony Ramos’ performance became a little too real.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has firmly established the post-Michael Bay era of the long-running franchise. The second in a new timeline that began with 2018’s Bumblebee, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has expanded franchise mythology for the better thanks to the inclusion of the Maximals, the protagonists of the 1990’s animated series Beast Wars: Transformers.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Director Steven Caple Jr. is one of many newcomers to the franchise who made Transformers: Rise of the Beasts such an exciting turn for Transformers. Caple Jr.’s collaboration with film stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback seems to be a fruitful one, with both actors shining in their respective roles as Noah Diaz and Elena Wallace. According to Caple Jr.

Steven Caple Jr.: I just posted up something last week on July 4, that showed Anthony and Dom running through a hole filled with explosions going everywhere, but there were no robots there. But they felt the explosions literally, Anthony's jacket caught on fire while he was actually rolling on the ground. It gave us a certain energy on set that we wouldn't be able to probably replicate, or imitate.

How Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Got Its Action Right A major criticism of Transformers films in recent years has been the way action scenes are handled; thankfully, Caple Jr. and co. avoided the pitfalls that plagued previous entries. In addition to creating opportunities for visceral responses from the actors themselves, the filmmakers behind Transformers: Rise of the Beasts toned down the series’ signature shaky camerawork during robot-on-robot fight scenes.

Thankfully, Steven Caple Jr. is reportedly in talks to helm the next entry in the Transformers series. Of course, whether that film will be Transformers: Rise of the Beasts 2 or the promised Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover film remains to be seen. With Transformers: Rise of the Beasts now available on home video, at least there is a way to revisit this latest entry between now and when the next film is released.
