People who plan to take part in a “slow roll” protest Saturday afternoon in support of farmer protests in the Netherlands have been warned by Ottawa police…
“Wellington Street remains closed to vehicles and there is zero tolerance for vehicle-based demonstrations or events within the city’s designated control zone in the downtown core.The Dutch embassy is on Albert Street, two blocks north of the exclusion zone boundary at Laurier Avenue.
“Groups choosing not to respect these designated areas will be met with an immediate police response involving enforcement and comprehensive towing options,” police said. Police and bylaw officers will be on the lookout for offenders, police said. Fines for offences like illegal parking, unnecessary idling and others have been raised to $1,000.
On Friday, a police spokesperson added: “All efforts are made to ensure a safe environment for all demonstrations, by maintaining open lines of communication with all involved. We are committed to ensuring that Charter guaranteed rights and freedoms are upheld, while ensuring that police officers carry out their sworn duties.”
