With Beryl’s landfall now expected closer to Corpus Christi, or maybe farther north, San Antonio and the metro will be on the quiet, westside of the storm.
The storm, which has been downgraded from hurricane status for now, entered the Gulf of Mexico on Friday night and is headed to the coast east of Corpus Christi. With each new advisory, Beryl's landfall forecast is moving farther east up the Texas coast. As of Sunday afternoon, landfall appears most likely between Corpus Christi and Matagorda Bay; Beryl is expected to arrive early Monday morning after strengthening back to hurricane status, likely a Category 1.
For us here in the Alamo City, the surest impact is lower July high temperatures next week. When Beryl appeared to be aiming for Corpus Christi, it meant the possibility of good tropical rains for San Antonio. But the closer the actual landfall forecast gets to Matagorda Bay farther east, the lower the chance of rain reaching San Antonio becomes.
