Two women visiting the US's famous Horseshoe Bend landmark from the Netherlands and Australia were struck by lightning.
Two women visiting Horseshoe Bend in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area were struck by lightning on Monday Two tourists suffered injuries after being struck by lightning at the iconic Horseshoe Bend landmark in Arizona. The unidentified visitors from the Netherlands and Australia, aged 22 and 23, were standing by the rim of the Colorado River in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area when the freak accident occurred just before 4pm on Monday.
‘If you hear thunder, you are at risk of getting struck by lightning and should immediately seek shelter in a vehicle or building,’ stated the NPS. Thunderstorms at the national recreation area are most common and severe during monsoon season – which runs from mid-June to September in Arizona and July to September in Utah. The bend is famous because of its horseshoe-shaped meander around the Colorado River. The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is at the Arizona-Utah border.
