This year’s opening weekend visit marked a particularly special visit, said Tara’s husband Carman, as it marked the first time in three years whereby visitors didn’t have to adhere to COVID-19 pandemic protocols. Marlene MacDonald and her daughter, Emma MacLean, also of Sydney Mines, said they make the trek to the Millville farm and the corn maze as a family tradition.“We’ve been coming here since Emma was a baby,” added MacDonald. “And it’s just great to see how beautiful it is outside and how busy it is.”“Slowly but surely, it’s nice to see everything getting back to normal again,” MacDonald said.
“And last year we went back to semi-normal, meaning we had to remind people to be mindful of others in close quarters and to wear masks. Plus, we had to put up signs and all that.” Ashley Niesten of Hank's Family Farm:"The kids are back; there are noises in the background, everyone’s playing." IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POST - IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POSTVisitors to the corn maze won’t see just one setup, Niesten said. A second “backup” maze was created mostly “in case we get a storm” similar to last fall’s massive precipitation dump or perhaps something similar to hurricane Dorian in 2019.
