A taxi driver allegedly quoted $75 for a 15-minute ride from The Fullerton Bay Hotel to Orchard Road, much to a tourist's shock.The tourist had just visited Merlion Park and wanted to take a taxi from the hotel's pickup point back to his hotel. However, he was so taken aback by the price that he did not dare to board the cab.:"The tourist told me that he had taken a taxi from his hotel at Orchard Road to the Merlion Park for around $20.
Mr Wu explained to the tourist that all cabbies in Singapore are required to turn on their meters, on which the final fare will be reflected. The tourist eventually boarded another taxi. Shin Min reporters visited the scene at around 9am on Oct 2 and observed more than a dozen tourists waiting in line. Most of them either booked a private-hire vehicle or had chartered a car in advance.
