The powerful symbol marks emotional day as lifelong Blues fan who died working on club's new stadium is laid to rest

Cranes and equipment at the site of Everton's new stadium were today pointed towards Goodison Park as a mark of respect for Blues fan Michael Jones as his funeral took place.

Michael, 26, from Kirkby, died after an incident at the Bramley-Moore Dock site on August 14 where he was helping to construct the new stadium. Today Club captain Seamus Coleman and Everton Chief Executive Colin Chong were amongst the hundreds of mourners to pay their respects to Michael as his funeral was held at St Joseph and St Laurence church in Kirkby.

Ahead of the funeral, the firm constructing the club's new stadium, Laing O'Rourke, closed the Bramley-Moore Dock site as a mark of respect to Michael and to allow many of his friends and colleagues from the stadium construction team to attend the funeral. In another tribute, Laing O’Rourke tilted the gibs of all cranes on the Bramley Moore Dock site towards Goodison Park, where Michael’s family and friends will gather in the evening as guests of the club.

Following the service, the funeral procession passed by Goodison Park and the new stadium site on Regent Road, en-route to a final farewell to Michael at Anfield Crematorium.
