Samson arrived at the zoo at around six months old on Sept. 22, 1998, after he was found wandering undernourished in Alaska with no mother. Zookeepers described Samson as an amazing and gentle bear with intelligence who “seemed to enjoy his one-on-one time with the Wildlife Care staff, which led to a high level of trust and a bond that made caring for him a privilege,” the zoo said in a press release.
