It’s no secret that Port aux Basques Mayor Brian Button is one of the biggest Toronto Maple Leafs fans in the province.

This week the mayor was informed by town staff that a delivery had arrived containing “a bunch of packages. ” All he was told was that it appeared to be from the Toronto Maple Leafs.“I just thought it was a joke,” says Button, thinking town staff were teasing him about his love of the team, but when he arrived, he encountered boxes and boxes of Leafs apparel.The jersey was autographed by Leafs’ President Brendan Shanahan, with a personalized letter explaining what the boxes contained.

Button says they are distributing the apparel to the community, the first of whom was Leafs fan Smokie Osmond who lost his home and nearly lost his life when he was swept out to sea.
