A Toronto chef says he is taking a break from using Toronto public transit for a month after a man allegedly pushed him, uttered racial slurs at him and tried to burn him at Castle Frank subway station.

“He started yelling bunch of racial slurs, telling me go back, and ‘this is my country’ and all that stuff,” Pontsang said. Then, he claims the man grabbed his hand and tried to burn it with a lighter. “I grew up in Canada and I heard that kind of thing in high school. But haven’t heard that since,” he added in reference to the racial slurs.
In an emailed response to the Star, a TTC spokesperson said that while they’ve seen the video, they did not receive a report of the incident. “We always encourage people who are victims of, or witness security incidents to report them to us and/or police,” the statement read.
