Elon Musk has offered to buy Twitter for $43 billion in cash, or $54.20 a share.
Twitter confirmed in a press release that it received an “unsolicited” offer from the SpaceX founder. Musk, whose fortune is estimated at about $260 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index, said Twitter “needs to be transformed as a private company,” and vowed to “unlock” its “extraordinary potential” if the bid is successful.
