The New Zealand native now has 53 wins, but at 42 years old, he’s a longshot to ever pass Foyt, who ended his illustrious career with 67 wins. To his credit, Dixon gave Power a hard battle for the championship, but ultimately finished 39 points short. Newgarden spent the last several races of the season lamenting several times about how he may have had a tighter race with Power if only he would have earned a spot or two higher finishes in a race here or there. Leaving points on the table will likely haunt him for a long time.
Lundgaard, a native of Denmark, didn’t lock up the title until the final race of the season, but had a good campaign, including a runner-up finish in the second Indy Grand Prix and a fifth-place finish in the season finale at Laguna Seca.
