Anthony Musitano, known to everyone as Tony, was walking through the dry cleaner he ran in Hamilton, Ont., lighting a cigarette as he passed stacked barrels of chemicals.Musitano turned with a serious look and said: “I can make it burn, if you want.”
Several years ago, on another unannounced visit I paid to the dry cleaner where he worked, owned by his second wife , Musitano waved a hand towards the industrial washing machines.There was a time, however, when everything the public knew about Musitano was just plain alarming. In 1988, city council — backed by the police chief — passed a resolution calling for “the denial of any early parole for Anthony Musitano” and that he not be allowed back in the city.He had a way of showing up at awkward moments.
Tony Musitano professed he had left “that life” after prison and called himself “a dinosaur” when it came to the new faces in the mob. He shielded his children from the mob side of the family business and was pleased with their accomplishments. He proudly handed out their business cards.
