We chat with SeeHowTheyRun director Tom George about making his feature directorial debut, the recent rise of the whodunnit genre, and more:
The rise of the whodunnit continues with See How They Run. The film centers on a world-weary detective and overzealous constable in 1950s London as they investigate the murder of multiple crew members for an Agatha Christie play.
Tom George: I think it was the chance to make something that's a thriller, but also a character comedy. And also the fact that it's a whodunnit that's also about whodunnits, it's like the whodunnit is almost a character in the film. So there were a lot of elements that Mark's script had in play that appealed to me.
Tom George: What I think is that it's probably impossible to set yourself apart in the world of a straight ahead whodunnit now. They've been done so many times that there probably isn't a new plot, in terms of every character has, in some version of whodunnit's, been revealed to be the murderer, if you see what I mean.
