Tom Brady puts together a rare stinker in anticipated homecoming
SANTA CLARA — Tom Brady’s long walk into Levi’s Stadium included a brief pause. The legendarily unflappable quarterback saw something inside of a storage room that stopped him in his tracks.
Hours later, Brady was awkwardly shaking hands with the rookie Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy, and signing one of his intercepted balls for Dre Greenlaw after the 49ers handed him one of the worst losses of his career,The vaunted 49ers defense picked him off twice and held him to a 63.7 quarterback rating, the 30th-worst rating over the 331 games he’s played in his 23-year career.
“I love having everyone here and it’s nice to have my family to come close. A lot of people from the neighborhood came,” Brady said. “It’s not going to change the outcome of the game, unfortunately. It was nice to have a cheering section … Wish we could have done a better job. Frustrating day for all of us.”
But Brady has always stayed in touch with the Bay Area and the people that brought him up. Through frequent text messages and calls from his dad, he keeps up religiously with the Serra High School Padres, his alma mater.
