Ms Collins, her husband and their two children were trapped in their one-storey home in the hard-hit Hawke’s Bay region when the flood waters arrived. In the chaos, one of the children – two-year-old Ivy – was swept away and drowned. Ms Collins said the child “died very quickly”.
