Walter Baker was an energetic and valued Ottawa mover and shaker, serving, among other things, as MP for Nepean-Carleton riding from 1972 to 1983. A grateful community honoured his memory after his untimely death at age 53 by naming the Walter Baker Recreational Centre after him. The city now proposes to turn the facility into a billboard for a local car dealership.
