In the last 70 years, ONEC has been primarily a sailing, rowing and tennis club. It continues to play a public role, training young sailors and tennis players, organizing sporting events and, until recently, hosting weddings and other events. The NCC is turning its attention to developing and animating the Ottawa River. This is good but we should not forget that the Ottawa New Edinburgh Club and other watersport clubs such as the Ottawa Rowing Club and the Britannia Yacht Club have been focused on and “animating” the Ottawa River since the 19th century.

In fact, federal transfers for health, which also include extraordinary transfers for specific needs get spent on tax cuts, cash giveaways, deficit reduction, unwanted highways and who knows what else. In many cases it wasn’t used on health as intended.
