On this date in 2019 PM Justin Trudeau announced a major cabinet shuffle, one that precipitated a major crisis within his government. Wilson-Reybould moved from Justice to Veterans Affairs, a move seen as a demotion. When speaking to reporters, Trudeau denied he had downgraded the B.C. MP and Indigenous leader’s role. “She is extraordinarily capable of delivering on this file that is one of the core delivery mandates that the federal government has,” he said. His minister obviously disagreed.
