Today in Canada’s Political History: In London, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau meets with Margaret Thatcher; she privately calls him “neurotic and paranoid”
Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau was in London on this date in 1980 to discuss his plans to patriate Canada’s Constitution with UK PM Margaret Thatcher. After the meeting, Mrs. Thatcher briefed Canada’s High Commissioner to the UK, Jean Wadds, about her private talks with Trudeau. In turn, Wadds directed her staff to provide a report on the Thatcher-Trudeau talks to Alberta’s representatives in London . The resulting report, sent to Edmonton, makes for interesting reading, even today.
