Chalamet posed for photos with several of his doppelgängers present at the event — many of whom were dressed as the actor’s most famous characters, including Willy Wonka and‘s Paul Atreides. The Associated Press reported general chaos surrounding the event, where Chalamet was flanked by body guards and some fans seemed to mistake look-alikes for the real actor.
The contest had been previously advertised on flyers around New York and was one of several doppelgängers events hosted by YouTuber Anthony Po, with a $50 prize for the winner.
Thousands had RSVP’ed, and before Chalamet arrived, police ordered a group to disperse from Washinton Square Park, where organizers were fined for an “unpermitted costume contest,” per AP. One contestant was arrested.
