Time-restricted eating reduces body mass in young athletic men Exercise MensHealth Men Health SSRN ULisboa_

By Suchandrima BhowmikNov 17 2022Reviewed by Benedette Cuffari, M.Sc. Optimum nutrition is essential for athletes interested in improving and maintaining their body composition and sports performance. Restrictive energy intake, along with structured exercise, is an effective non-pharmacological approach for achieving these results.

IF can be beneficial for increasing exercise performance in combination with regular training. For these purposes, the beneficial impact of IF depends on the positive regulation of metabolic pathways associated with mitochondrial biogenesis. This would further increase the expenditure of energy during exercise.

About the study A new SSRN preprint* paper analyzed the impact of four weeks of TRE and structured endurance training on markers of metabolic health, body composition, and running aerobic capacity. Eight study participants underwent the regular diet intervention, while seven underwent the TRE intervention. TRE intervention comprised 100% energy intake within an eight-hour window each day, while the regular diet intervention comprised 100% energy intake distributed throughout a 24-hour period.
