Governor Kristi Noem even declared September 3, 2022 “Official Corn-bassador Tariq Day.”"Whereas, South Dakota is one of the top corn producers in the nation, providing nourishment across the globe but especially to Tariq, a 7-year-old boy who recently discovered that corn was real," reads Gov. Noem's Executive Proclamation, directly quoting Tariq's words in the TikTok.
"As part of naming Tariq a South Dakota Corn-bassador, we wanted Tariq and his family to experience a combination of South Dakota's two largest industries, tourism and agriculture," Katlyn Svendsen, a rep from the South Dakota Department of TourismGov. Noem posted photos of Tariq visiting the Corn Palace, including the cutest picture in existence of the boy posing with the attraction's corn mascot.
” Tariq is seen excitedly staring out the window as he and his family drive past cornfields in South Dakota. “My babies!" yells Tariq.While Tariq's virality leading to partnerships and new opportunities has already been criticized by some as exploitative, Julian Shapiro-Barnum — the host of Recess Therapy and the one who interviewed Tariq — affirmed to“Tariq is the most bubbly, talkative kid who so thoroughly enjoys doing this stuff,” Shapiro-Barnum.
