Golf superstar Tiger Woods has pulled out of this week's Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines following the passing of his mother. He cites his emotional state as the reason for his withdrawal.

Golf legend Tiger Woods announced his withdrawal from this week's Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, citing his emotional state following the recent passing of his mother, Kultida. Woods had intended to make his first competitive appearance on the US PGA Tour in seven months at the event, which he also hosts. Despite his best efforts to prepare and honor his mother's wish, Woods acknowledged in a social media statement that he is not yet ready to compete.

Woods expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support he has received and hopes to visit Torrey Pines later in the week. The 15-time major champion had endured a challenging year, struggling with back pain and leg injuries sustained in a 2021 car accident. He withdrew from the Genesis last February after one round due to illness and missed the cut in three other major championships. Woods, however, had shown signs of progress in recent months. He underwent another back surgery in September and participated in the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie, in December. He has also been actively involved in the TGL indoor simulator league he co-founded with Rory McIlroy. The Genesis Invitational was moved from its usual venue, the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, due to the impact of the recent wildfires in the area.
