Within San Antonio city limits, it is expected to be gusty for a while, but it won't stay gusty for very long.

The San Antonio area is under a slight risk of severe weather as showers and thunderstorms are expected Thursday and Friday.More rain is expected Thursday as a cold front moving through the area will bring showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service in New Braunfels. The cold front, arriving in the late afternoon Thursday, will be accompanied by strong winds, starting earlier that day.

"This front's going to be quite mild with winds from the north or northwest, which is what we call a Pacific front," Monte Oaks, a meteorologist with NWS, said."That doesn't cool the temps down much, just about two or three degrees. It will dry off the atmosphere, however." The strong winds will come from the south on Thursday, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour, Oaks said, ahead of the front. Within San Antonio city limits, it is expected to be gusty for a while, but it won't stay gusty for very long.

"The question is whether or not we get any strong or severe thunderstorms, we have a 50 to 60 percent chance of thunderstorms in the pre-dawn hours on Friday morning, and higher winds may come out of the thunderstorms," Oaks said. He noted that the ingredients necessary for a thunderstorm will be in place Thursday, with the cold front's arrival acting as a trigger.
