Mounties got the call at 8:20 a.m. from a man who saw the trio of cats in his backyard in the 580 block of Latoria Road. One of the RCMP officers patrolling the area later spotted a single cougar crossing the street and going into Havenwood Park in Colwood shortly after the resident’s call. “The officer advised the cougar appeared to be younger and not quite full grown,” Cpl. Nancy Saggar, spokesperson for the West Shore RCMP, said in a statement Monday. The Ministry of Environment said if you encounter a cougar, stay calm and keep the cougar in view, pick up children immediately. Children frighten easily and the noise and movements they make could provoke an attack.
Make yourself look as large as possible and keep the cougar in front of you at all times. Never run or turn your back on a cougar, as sudden movement may provoke an attack
