Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta has capitalized on Threads being linked to Instagram to grow the new platform’s user base.

In a letter Wednesday to Zuckerberg, Alex Spiro, an attorney representing Twitter, accused Meta of unlawfully using Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property by hiring former Twitter employees to create a “copycat” app. The platform, which allows users to issue posts of up to 500 characters, has also come under scrutiny in recent days for its far-reaching data policy. In keeping with, Threads’ privacy policy will enable the app access to financial info, personal info, photos, location, contacts and search history, among other data.
Though the app has been launched in more than 100 countries, including the U.S., Britain, Australia, Canada and Japan, it’s currently unavailable in the European Union due to regulatory uncertainty.
